Buenos Aires
Best time: October-November and March-May. Temperatures 18-25°C, low humidity, jacaranda blooms (November). December-February reaches 30-35°C with stifling humidity (locals leave for Mar del Plata or Carilo). Patagonia (Calafate, El Chalten, Ushuaia)
Best time: November-March, essential December-February. Days up to 17 hours of light, stable weather, glaciers active, navigations operating. April-May and September-October are mid-season: fewer tourists, better prices, but unpredictable weather. June-August: not recommended, many services closed, partially frozen lakes. Salta, Jujuy and NOA
Best time: March-November. Dry season, clear days, perfect photos at Quebrada de Humahuaca and Hornocal. December-February rains afternoons (NOA cliche: storm at 5pm, sun at 7pm), roads can be muddy and some access closed temporarily. Best individual month: September or April. Full Salta guide.
Mendoza
Best time: March-May (vendimia + colors) and September-November (spring). Official Vendimia Feb 28-March 7; harvest at wineries through April. Las Lenas ski season: July-September. Summer Dec-Feb is very warm (32-38°C) but excellent for Aconcagua and high mountain. Full Mendoza guide.
Iguazu
Best time: year-round, optimal April-June and September-November. March-May: maximum flow, brutal spectacle. August-September: minimum flow, best photos thanks to less spray. December-February: very humid and hot (35°C+), but the falls always impress. Full Iguazu guide.
Ibera and Litoral
Best time: April-October. Dry season, best wildlife sighting (capybaras, caimans, marsh deer). Summer is very hot and mosquito-ridden. Full Ibera guide.

Best time: January-March (lake summer) and June-September (skiing). Autumn April-May is photographically spectacular (red lengas) but many services reduce hours. Full Bariloche guide.

Wine and vendimia
March-April is the moment. Official Vendimia Feb 28-March 7 in Mendoza. Wineries open harvest to public (grape cutting, symbolic stomping, vendimia asado). Cafayate harvests Torrontes in February-March, Malbec in April. Mendoza Vendimia 2026.
Whale watching
June-December at Peninsula Valdes. Activity peak: September-October. Southern right whales come to birth and mate in Nuevo and San Jose gulfs. Tours from Puerto Madryn (USD 90-150). Peninsula Valdes guide.
Skiing
July-September, peak July. Cerro Catedral (Bariloche, the largest, USD 60-100/day pass), Las Lenas (Mendoza, the most technical, USD 80-130/day), Cerro Castor (Ushuaia, the southernmost, USD 70-110/day). Book 3-4 months ahead for Argentine winter break (mid-July).
Quebrada de Humahuaca and Hornocal
March-November, peak April-May and September-October. Pristine sky, no rain. Hornocal at 4,350m needs acclimatization (1-2 nights at Tilcara or Humahuaca beforehand). Avoid January-February (daily rains). NOA guide.
Glaciers
December-March is main season but Perito Moreno is active year-round. Big Ice (ice trekking) operates Oct-Mar. Spegazzini and Upsala navigation: Oct-Apr. In winter (Jul-Aug) reduced version but lookout still accessible. Calafate guide.
Surf and beaches
December-March in Mar del Plata, Carilo, Pinamar and Mar de las Pampas. Peak January. Argentine surfing is accessible: boards USD 15-25/day in Mar del Plata, schools USD 35-50/class. Cold waters (15-20°C even in summer).
Penguins
September-March at Punta Tombo (Chubut, largest continental colony with 1 million birds). Peak: November-December with chicks. Tours from Puerto Madryn (USD 80-130). In Tierra del Fuego: Martillo Island Nov-Mar.
Aurora australis / Winter Ushuaia
June-August. Ushuaia has 17-hour nights, ideal for astronomical observation. Aurora australis appears in years of high solar activity. Combine with Cerro Castor skiing.

January
Patagonia peak (Calafate, Chalten, Bariloche, Ushuaia). BA hot (head to coast). Argentine vacation: everything full and expensive. Book Patagonia 5+ months ahead.
February
Patagonia top continues. Mendoza starts vendimia (gorgeous colors). Iguazu with extreme heat. NOA with afternoon rains. Carilo and Mar del Plata peak. Book Vendimia 4 months ahead.
March
Official Mendoza Vendimia (Feb 28-March 7). Patagonia still operative. NOA starts ideal season. Iguazu with peak flow. Best general month of the year: ideal climate almost countrywide.
April
Spectacular autumn (Bariloche and Calafate with colors). Mendoza Malbec harvest. NOA in dry plenitude. BA pleasant. Easter Week: high prices, everything booked early.
May
Deep autumn. Patagonia starts closing partially. NOA, Mendoza, BA and Iguazu perfect. Bariloche with first snows. Excellent for photography.
June
Winter starts. NOA at peak (pristine skies). Deep Patagonia closes much. Bariloche opens ski season. Iguazu pleasant and cheap. Whale watching Valdes begins.
July
Ski peak (winter break). NOA dry and beautiful. BA cold dry. Patagonia for skiing but no glacier accessible. Cerro Catedral, Las Lenas, Cerro Castor saturated (book 3+ months ahead).
August
Skiing continues. NOA still good but colder nights. Iguazu with minimum flow (best photos). Deep Patagonia partially inaccessible. BA cheapest month of the year.
September
Spring starts. Mendoza buds. NOA still top. Bariloche last ski month. Deep Patagonia starts reopening. Whale Valdes peak. Excellent month to visit everything.
October
Best general month. Spring full in BA (jacarandas), Mendoza, NOA. Patagonia reopening fully. Iguazu perfect. No high-season saturation. Reasonable bookings.
November
BA in plenitude (purple jacarandas). Patagonia 100% operative. Mendoza, NOA, Iguazu perfect. Punta Tombo penguins with chicks. Excellent alternative to March.
December
Summer starts: Patagonia explosive. BA humid. NOA with afternoon rains. Mendoza warm but excellent for high mountain. Christmas-New Year: peak prices, everything full.
What to avoid
- Easter Week (variable, March-April): prices +50-150%, hotels full nationwide, saturated roads. Book 4+ months ahead or avoid.
- Christmas-New Year: almost everything closed in BA (locals travel), saturated transport, peak prices in Patagonia and coast.
- August 17 and July 9: long national holidays, all tourist spots fill up.
- Mid-May to late June: Patagonia transition, many services closed.
- Carnival (February): Gualeguaychu, Corrientes and Salta saturated.
