Tango was born in the tenement houses of the Riachuelo in the late 19th century, a blend of African rhythms, criollo milonga and the music of Italian and Spanish immigrants, and was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. Buenos Aires is the world capital of tango, and no visit is complete without experiencing this dance: from theatrical dinner shows to milongas where portenos dance until dawn, street tango in San Telmo and beginner classes that let you take your first steps.
