Puente del Inca

Natural rock arch at 2,719 m — Hot springs, mineral colors and Natural Monument

Last updated: April 2026

Puente del Inca is a natural geological formation at 2,719 meters on Route 7, 183 km from Mendoza (lat -32.8264, lng -69.9111). A natural rock arch 48 m long, 28 m wide and 8 m high spans the Las Cuevas River, created by sulfurous hot springs over thousands of years. What makes it extraordinarily beautiful are the mineral colors: sulfur, iron and other mineral deposits paint the bridge and surrounding rocks in brilliant oranges, yellows, greens and ochres, creating a surreal landscape. Declared a Natural Monument in 1991. Below the bridge are ruins of a 1925 thermal hotel destroyed by an avalanche in 1965. Essential stop on the Route 7 high mountain circuit.

A massive rock arch spanning the river, covered in intense mineral deposits. Viewed from lookouts on the south bank (walking on the bridge is prohibited for safety). Best photos from the elevated viewpoint.

Mineral Colors and Petrifications

Thermal Hotel Ruins

Beneath and beside the bridge are ruins of the 1925 Hotel Puente del Inca, partially covered by mineral deposits creating a ghostly landscape of orange and green walls.

Aconcagua Viewpoint

A few kilometers west on Route 7, a viewpoint offers a direct view of Mount Aconcagua's (6,961 m) south face. Essential stop.
