If there is one experience that defines the word adrenaline at Iguazu, it is the Gran Aventura. This excursion combines an open-air truck ride through the Misiones jungle with a speedboat ride that takes you directly beneath the falling water. We are not talking about gentle splashes: the boat goes literally under the cascades while tonnes of water crash down on you. It is the kind of experience that makes you scream with joy like a child.
The Gran Aventura operates exclusively on the Argentine side of the Iguazu National Park and is run by Iguazu Jungle. It operates every day of the year (weather permitting) and is one of the park's most popular activities.

Part One: Jungle Truck Ride
The adventure begins in the Lower Circuit area, where you board an open-top safari-style truck that plunges into the Misiones jungle for 8 kilometres. A bilingual guide explains the flora and fauna as you pass through the subtropical forest: pindo palms, giant ferns, wild orchids and, if you are lucky, a toucan or capuchin monkey crossing the path.
This 30-minute stretch works as the perfect transition: you move from the park infrastructure into the deep jungle, building anticipation for what comes next. The truck drops you at the Puerto Macuco dock, where the speedboats are waiting.
Part Two: Speedboat Under the Falls
The pilot fires up the boat and begins heading upriver through the Iguazu River canyon. The jungle walls close in on both sides and you begin to hear the roar of the falls approaching. The anticipation is part of the experience.
And then the moment arrives: the boat heads directly towards the cascades. The pilot manoeuvres expertly, getting closer and closer to the curtain of water. First you feel the spray, then the wind, and finally tonnes of water come crashing down on you. The pilot passes once, twice, up to three times under different cascades, drawing screams of excitement from every passenger. It is an experience of pure collective joy.
Essential preparation: Leave everything you do not want wet in the park lockers (available in the Lower Circuit area). Wear sport sandals or old trainers. The boat provides dry bags for phones, but the protection is not 100%. If you have your own waterproof pouch, bring it. Many visitors carry a change of clothes in a dry bag.
