Mount Fitz Roy at sunrise, El Chalten

10 Days in Patagonia

The complete route with El Chalten trekking: Fitz Roy, glaciers, lakes and the end of the world.

Last updated: April 2026

This 10-day Patagonia itinerary is for those who want to experience it deeply. We add three days of trekking in El Chalten, Argentina's national trekking capital, to the classic 7-day route, reaching the foot of Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. The perfect itinerary for nature and trekking lovers.

Estimated budget: USD 1,500-2,800 per person mid-range (excluding international flights), including hotels, meals, tours and internal flights.

Days 1-3: Bariloche

Same as the 7-day itinerary: arrival and exploration, Circuito Chico with Cerro Campanario, and the Route of the Seven Lakes or Victoria Island.

Day 4: Fly to El Calafate & Glaciarium

Flight (2 hours). Afternoon at the Glaciarium (museum + glaciobar at -10C) and Avenida Libertador. Patagonian lamb dinner.

Day 5: Perito Moreno Glacier

Full day at Perito Moreno Glacier. Walkways facing the ice colossus with constant calving events. Optional mini-trekking (USD 200, book ahead).

Days 6-8: El Chalten — trekking capital

Day 6: Transfer to El Chalten by bus (3 hours, USD 15-25). Afternoon walk to Chorrillo del Salto (1 hour), a 20 m waterfall in lenga forest.

Day 7: The epic Laguna de los Tres trek at the foot of Mount Fitz Roy. 25 km return (8-10 hours) with a demanding final section. The reward is a turquoise glacial lagoon framed by Fitz Roy's granite walls — one of the most photographed views on Earth.

Day 8: Laguna Torre trek (18 km return, 6-7 hours), at the foot of Cerro Torre. Less demanding but equally spectacular. Return to El Calafate in the afternoon.

El Chalten tip: All trails are free and do not require a guide. Start early (before 7 AM) for the long treks. Bring food, water (refill from streams) and layered clothing. Weather changes rapidly: you can start in sunshine and finish in snow.

Day 9: Fly to Ushuaia + Beagle Channel

Flight (1 hour). Afternoon Beagle Channel cruise: sea lions, cormorants, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. King crab dinner.

Day 10: Tierra del Fuego & departure

End of the World Train + Tierra del Fuego National Park. Lapataia Bay and the end of Ruta 3. Return flight.
