Frequently Asked Questions

What is land sailing?

Wind-powered carts (carrovelas) with sails race across a perfectly flat dry lakebed at speeds up to 100 km/h. No experience needed. Instructors provide training and the flat terrain makes it safe. An unforgettable adrenaline experience.

Do I need clear skies for the observatory?

Yes, cloudy nights mean the observatory visit is less rewarding. The region has over 300 clear nights per year, but always check weather before booking. New moon periods are best for deep-sky observation.

Is rafting suitable for beginners?

Yes. The Los Patos River offers Class II-III rapids which are exciting but manageable for first-timers. All equipment and safety instruction provided. Minimum age usually 12.

How far is Barreal from Calingasta?

About 40 km (45 minutes). Easy to combine both destinations. Calingasta adds altitude wines, a historic hanging bridge and more trekking options.
