The Tigre Delta is a river island ecosystem at the mouth of the Parana River, accessible from the town of Tigre, just 30 km north of Buenos Aires (lat -34.4250, lng -58.5797). This maze of rivers, streams and canals spans 14,000 km2 of islands covered with subtropical vegetation where about 6,000 people live in stilt houses accessible only by boat. Water taxis (public river transport) cruise the delta sections carrying locals, tourists and suppliers. Puerto de Frutos is a historic market selling island products, crafts and plants. You can go kayaking, rowing, wakeboarding, take boat rides and walk island trails. Combined with a visit to San Isidro on the way, it is the most popular day trip from Buenos Aires.
