The estancias of Buenos Aires province offer the most immersive experience in Argentine gaucho culture, less than 2 hours from the capital. Located near San Antonio de Areco (113 km), Lobos (100 km) and Capilla del Senor (80 km), these century-old rural estates open their doors for "country days" that include empanada and mate welcome, horseback ride through the pampa (1-2 hours), gaucho skills demonstrations (rodeo, ring jousting, boleadoras), a legendary criolla barbecue, and a live folklore show. Prices start at USD 80 per person all-inclusive, or USD 120-180 with transport from Buenos Aires.
