Jesus Maria is a historic city 48 km north of Cordoba capital (lat -30.9833, lng -64.0942), world-famous for its Jesuit Estancia, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Today it functions as the National Jesuit Museum, displaying colonial sacred art, agricultural tools and the history of the winemaking the Jesuits started in the 17th century. Every January, the National Doma and Folklore Festival draws over 200,000 people across 10 consecutive nights of rodeo and live folk music. Nearby: Colonia Caroya (8 km) and Santa Catalina (20 km).

How to Get There

48 km from Cordoba on the Cordoba-Jesus Maria highway (RN 9). 40 minutes by car. Frequent buses from Cordoba Terminal: 50-60 min, less than USD 3.

What to See and Do

Jesuit Estancia & National Museum

Founded 1618. The complex includes the church, residence, cloister, winery and hydraulic system remains. The museum displays sacred art, colonial furniture and original winery tools. Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-18:00. USD 2-3.

National Doma and Folklore Festival

First half of January, 10 consecutive nights. Argentina's largest rodeo and folk music event. Over 200,000 total attendees. Tickets: USD 10-40.
