Buenos Aires has so much to offer that the hardest part is deciding where to start. From historic neighborhoods with European architecture to world-class tango shows, from legendary steak restaurants to a nightlife that only starts after midnight, the city surprises at every corner.
Must-see attractions
Plaza de Mayo & Casa Rosada
The political and historic heart of Buenos Aires. The Casa Rosada (presidential palace) offers free guided tours on weekends. The Metropolitan Cathedral, where Pope Francis was archbishop, is next door. The free walking tour (2.5 hours) is the best way to see it all.
Recoleta Cemetery
One of the world's most fascinating cemeteries, with mausoleums that look like mini-cathedrals. Eva Peron's tomb is here. Free admission, allow 1 hour. The surrounding Recoleta neighborhood has MALBA (Latin American art museum), the Floralis Generica and elegant cafes.
San Telmo & Sunday Market
BA's most charming neighborhood. Every Sunday, the San Telmo Fair fills Defensa street with antiques, crafts, street tango and food. The Mercado de San Telmo is great for lunch (empanadas, choripan, USD 5-10).
La Boca & Caminito
The colorful houses of Caminito are BA's most photographed spot. Visit Fundacion Proa (free contemporary art) and La Bombonera stadium tours (from USD 5) if you are a football fan.
Palermo
BA's coolest neighborhood. Palermo Soho has design shops, galleries, and the best restaurants. Palermo Hollywood is the bar and nightlife district. The Bosques de Palermo are perfect for walking or cycling (Ecobici is free).
