The Estadio Mas Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti is the largest stadium in Argentina and one of the biggest in South America, with a capacity of 84,567 spectators that make it a colossus of world football. Located in the Nunez neighbourhood in northern Buenos Aires, it is the home of Club Atletico River Plate and the stadium where the Argentine national team plays most of its international matches. River Plate, founded in 1901, is the club with the most titles in Argentine football and the eternal rival of Boca Juniors. The stadium was inaugurated in 1938, expanded for the 1978 World Cup and completely renovated between 2019 and 2023 with a USD 70 million investment.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, the La Bombonera or the Monumental tour?

Is the area around the Monumental safe?

Yes, Nunez is a safe and quiet residential neighbourhood. Unlike La Boca, you can walk around the area without special precautions. There are restaurants, cafes and parks in the surroundings.

Can you visit both stadiums in one day?

Yes, you can visit the Monumental in the morning and La Bombonera in the afternoon (or vice versa). They are about 30-40 minutes apart by taxi. An ideal plan for football fans who want to compare Argentina's two most iconic stadiums.
